The Green Scene: Reclaimed Wood

What do you think of using reclaimed wood in spaces? A little touch of something old and something used?

Yummy. . .we love a hint of reclaimed wood in a room! The soft, worn wood adds depth to the room and makes the space feel lived in. Using old worn furniture, or even new furniture that looks worn can help your home avoid looking like a furniture ad and more like a lived in beautiful home. It can be added in the bones of the room such as the wood floors, the cabinetry, and the walls - or more easily, in the furniture.

The look of the reclaimed wood is cozy, like a cottage. We especially love reclaimed wood next to something glamorous like shiny chrome or glossy white accessories just like in the Vicente Wolf’s design with the glossy white modern chairs and the neat wood table. We just love it! Can’t we all have a room with those gorgeous wood plank ceilings!!

Here are a few places that you can find lovely pieces of furniture that fit this style.

  • Antique Stores
  • Restoration Hardware
  • Pottery Barn
  • Dovetail Furniture
  • Noire

I would love to do that to my ceiling! Can I just put those planks over sheetrock?

Tamar - Yes you can! But if you put it directly over sheetrock make sure to take off the crown molding and put it back on over the planks.

I so want to sit at the table in the first photo and have a cup of coffee with my best friend! It is surely a measure of your success that you designed a room that makes someone envision their own life in that space. Beautiful!
