It was the first day of spring last week, and although the weather was a bit crazy all around the country it was gorgeous here! Which got us thinking about spring cleaning, and pulling out all of our spring/summer clothes.  We love this time of year, it’s so refreshing to give your home a good deep clean- go through toys, clothes, and closets and get organized. We decided to put together a little series we are calling our “Spring Fling,” we are going to devote the month of April to refreshing your home with tips on cleaning, simplifying, and organizing.

We love the smell of a clean fresh home, but often times a clean home comes at a cost- the lingering smell of chemical cleaning supplies. Over the years we’ve picked up a few tips to get the house sparkling without a harsh smell afterwards. With just a few simple supplies, many of which are already in your cupboards, you can create almost any cleaning solution. We've compiled a list of general cleaners, and another list of natural deodorizers. All of these are pet, child, and pregnancy friendly!

All Purpose Cleaner:

1/2 cup Warm Water

1/2 cup Vinegar

2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

15 drops Tea Tree Oil

The Tea Tree oil isn’t necessary, but it does make the cleaner anti-bacterial. So it’s great for wiping down hard surfaces, especially during cold season.

Grease Cutter:

2 Cups warm water

1/4 Cup Castile Soap (like Dr.Bronners)

Mix together in a spray bottle and spray on surface, let sit for a few seconds then wipe off with a damp sponge.

Glass Cleaner:

1 1/2 to 2 cups water

1/2 cup white vinegar

1/4 cup rubbing alcohol (70 percent)

Mix in spray bottle. Use to clean all glass surfaces or mirrors. I use newspaper instead of paper towels for glass, which may sound strange but it doesn't leave streaks or those little towel fibers behind.

Carpet Re-Fresher:

About twice a year sprinkle baking soda all over the carpet, leave it for about 30 minutes then vacuum it up. It deodorizes and leaves a fresh smell, and its kid and pet safe.

Homemade Room Spray:

3/4 cup Water

2/3 cup rubbing alcohol

15 drops scented oil

12 drops complimenting scented oil

Shake it all together in a spray bottle.

Scented Dryer Sheets:

Place a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil on a piece of wet cloth and put it in the dryer with your clothes, lavender smells great—and toss in with wet laundry.

Lastly, we want to share with you a great cleaning checklist of covering all the basics.  You can pin the image or download a printable version of the checklist here.
